Welcome to La Pets Of Homeless page.
After one year of volunteering at Skid Row, delivering food and supplies for houseless community, I saw that no organization is there weekly, or not even monthly, providing continuous help for their pets. Almost every animal at Skid Row is in need of vaccines and flea medications and every single animal is in need of food and basic supplies like leashes, harnesses, water bowls, beds, pet blankets, pet carriers, exercise/ play-pen.
Very important is spay and neuter outreach. Houseless pet guardians are not aware of how important spay and neuter is and we need to help by providing as many information as we can and also stepping in and taking their animals for spay/ neuter.
City and responsible parties do not help, so us, as a community, need to try and help these animals. Some organizations, who do provide service for animals at Skid Row, do offer help, but only at certain locations and that requires homeless community to drive long distances to get to them. Also, most of the time it is very hard to reach organizations who are to help. What I believe is that organizations need to send more volunteers to outreach, distribute supplies and organize mobile vet service.
That is why I am volunteering my time and meeting with unhoused guardians every Sunday, making sure that them and their animals have everything needed, while building good relationship with this community.
I have experienced how hard it is to reach some organizations, and I can not even imagine how it is for houseless community, not having internet or phone service.
Because of that, I decided to start helping on my own, and be available for unhoused community and their pets 24/7.
I visit Skid Row every Sunday and step in when urgent medical care is needed ( during the week). Other services that I am helping with are TNR, spay/ neuter, vaccines, flea medication, food, pet supplies, nail trimming, transportation to clinics and back to their houseless guardians and rescue when needed.
In some cases guardians are asking for me to rehome their pets, so I offer temporary foster care, transportation, networking trough rescues and adoption.
Note: No animal should be rehomed without proper home checkup, physical exam and spay/ neuter.
As this project was born out of love for our houseless community and their pets, I appreciate any donation toward medical cost and supplies.
I am delivering supplies ( food, water, bowls, toys, flea medications, leashes, harnesses, pet sweaters, blankets, carriers) at Skid Row and many other homeless encampments every Sunday.
You can help by joining me in person, sharing funds for medical care or by checking our wishlist and ordering urgently needed supplies.
